THE CHALLENGE
The City of Carson provides cultural arts programs and community experiences, but limited visibility, inconsistent communication, and fragmented feedback make its value difficult to assess.
The goal was to develop a more accessible and recognizable civic platform to increase awareness, encourage participation, and demonstrate the importance of arts programming to residents and stakeholders.
THE AUDIENCE
The primary audience included residents, families, students, young adults, artists, and others seeking accessible cultural experiences.
Secondary audiences were instructors, commissioners, city staff, program partners, and civic leaders responsible for participation, funding, and long-term program development.
THE SOLUTION
The process involved program audits, gathering community insights, collaborating with stakeholders, conducting audience research, analyzing digital journeys, and evaluating registration and communication barriers.
I developed a flexible visual identity, campaign framework, digital concepts, promotional assets, and feedback tools to improve awareness and facilitate participation. The system also enabled data collection, deeper understanding of resident needs, and clearer communication of program value.
THE CORE IDEA
The platform positioned cultural arts as more than a set of programs, framing creativity, education, and participation as civic resources that strengthen connection, representation, and belonging.
The identity was designed to reflect Carson’s diversity and create a more welcoming path to city-supported arts experiences.
THE LEARNING
The project broadened my perspective on design as a tool for participation, accountability, and public trust. Connecting identity, communication, access, and feedback enables creative strategy to help civic organizations better serve their communities.
