THE CHALLENGE: Modernizing a Legacy Without Losing Its Equity
After nearly four decades of industry credibility, UBM Canon’s flagship MedTech and Design & Manufacturing event needed an identity that reflected the scale and sophistication of the experience.
The challenge was to modernize the masterbrand, unify 13 co-located summits, and create a flexible system across digital platforms, marketing, signage, wayfinding, and onsite environments.
THE AUDIENCE: Connecting Specialized Communities Through One Experience
The event brought together engineers, designers, manufacturers, executives, buyers, suppliers, and technical professionals across specialized industries.
Attendees needed to identify the summits most relevant to their work while recognizing them as part of one connected ecosystem. Exhibitors and sponsors also needed stronger visibility and more consistent access to qualified audiences.
THE SOLUTION: Building a System Designed to Scale
I began with a brand audit, stakeholder input, competitive research, and an evaluation of the attendee journey.
The rebrand followed seven phases, from discovery and identity exploration through validation, environmental application, and campaign rollout. The resulting system unified websites, advertising, social media, signage, wayfinding, show environments, and award experiences.
THE CORE IDEA: Evolving Forward While Preserving Trust
The central concept was controlled evolution: modernizing the event without abandoning its established credibility.
The flagship event became the visual and strategic anchor, while each summit retained the flexibility to connect with its audience. A contemporary, technology-forward design language created cohesion across the experience.
THE LEARNING: Creating Clarity Before Transformation
The project strengthened my ability to use brand architecture, journey mapping, phased strategy, and stakeholder alignment to manage transformation at scale.
Most importantly, it showed that legacy brands do not need change simply to appear new. They need clarity, thoughtful evolution, and a system that protects their history while enabling future growth.
